Canada Election 2025 LIVE Updates: Canadians are set to cast their ballot in a few hours in an election that looks vastly different from just a few months ago. The Conservatives are aiming to end the Liberals’ two-term run, which began under former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Liberal leader and Prime Minister Mark Carney touts his central banking experience to counter Donald Trump’s tariff threats, while Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre blames past Liberal governance for Canada’s economic vulnerability to hostile American trade policies. Polling, which has been staggered across six time zones, is scheduled to begin at 7 am local time (7.30 pm IST).
Opinion polls: As per poll tracker, Nanos Research, at the time Trudeau announced his resignation. conservatives were leading the race with 47 per cent popularity against the Liberals at 20 per cent. However, a recent three-day poll ended April 26 reveals the Liberal Party regained its prime position with a 4 percentage points nationally and 6 points in Ontario, which is Canada’s most significant province with 122 of the 343 parliamentary seats.
When and where will results be available: Elections Canada has said that it expects to count “vast majority” of ballots on the election night itself. According to an AP report, each election place counts its election day votes manually and submits the results to the district’s local Elections Canada office. The local Elections Canada office then uploads the data on the official website of Elections Canada. Results are also directly released to the news organisations. The first set of election results are reportedly expected to be released on April 29, 10 am IST.
