Cameron Green scores 100 for Gloucestershire on his return to cricket

Australia`s all-rounder Cameron Green has made a return to competitive cricket in England, according to the ICC`s official website.

After being sidelined for six months due to an injury, Green made his return to competitive cricket while representing Gloucestershire in England`s county cricket.

Representing the team, in the four-day match against Kent, the right-hander scored a glorious century, which included 12 boundaries.

Expressing views on Green`s knock, Gloucestershire`s head coach, Mark Alleyne, said, “Of course we like his (Green`s) runs in the middle, but being an overseas (player) and coming into a club is much more than just performances in the middle”.

Upon his return to cricket, Cameron Green could turn out to be a dark horse for Australia, if selected, in the upcoming World Test Championship (WTC) final against South Africa, beginning from June 11.

After the first innings heroics, the 25-year-old was dismissed for just three runs in the second innings.

Alleyne further said that Green made contributions to the team even before the century. The coach further stated that the right-hander`s century came in a crucial time and has made a strong start to his Gloucestershire career.

“Already without the 100, he had started to make an impact on the group, so that has really consolidated the start to his Gloucestershire career, and he scored such an important 100 at a tricky time for us,” the coach concluded.

Currently, Australia has a number of batting options within their top six for the one-off Test in June. With Green`s form, the all-rounder can be considered for a spot on the team despite the fact that he is still unable to bowl because of the recent surgery, which was due to a long-term back injury.

In the past, the injury had led Green to be ruled out of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy late last year. It also led him to miss out on Sri Lanka`s test tour and the Champions Trophy 2025.
