Attempted Murder of Constables
Hyderabad, July 8, 2025 — In a shocking incident, Bowenpally Police arrested a 25-year-old cab driver, Nochina Sampath Kumar, for attempting to murder two police constables by ramming his vehicle into their patrol bike on the night of July 5. The accused was taken into custody near Dilsukhnagar Metro Station on July 8, following an intensive manhunt aided by CCTV footage and technical analysis.
According to police reports, the incident occurred around 10:00 PM on Dairy Farm Road in Bowenpally. Constables K. Chanti and L. Praveen were on Blue Colt duty when they approached a suspiciously parked taxi. Upon closer inspection, they found the driver engaged in indecent activity with a woman inside the vehicle.
In a bid to escape, Sampath Kumar deliberately drove his car into the constables’ patrol bike, seriously injuring Constable Praveen, who sustained a grievous leg injury. Constable Chanti also suffered minor injuries. The accused fled the scene immediately.
The accused had been operating the vehicle—a white taxi bearing registration TS07UM7908—under a popular ride-sharing platform. Investigations revealed that the car was leased from a private fleet operator. He later admitted to ramming the police to avoid being caught and facing potential legal and social consequences.
Police successfully tracked the accused using surveillance footage and mobile tracing and seized both the crime vehicle and a OnePlus smartphone used by the driver at the time of the offense.
A case has been registered against Sampath Kumar under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for attempted murder and obstructing public servants in the discharge of their duties.
Bowenpally Police have reaffirmed their commitment to protecting public safety and warned that any attacks on law enforcement personnel will be dealt with strictly.
