Maharashtra BJP MLA and former minister Sambhaji Patil Nilangekar on Thursday urged party workers and office-bearers to work in unity, expose the Opposition’s inefficiency, and ensure the party`s victory in the upcoming Latur City Municipal Corporation (LCMC) elections, news agency PTI reported.
Nilangekar highlighted that development work in Latur district has gained strong momentum with ample funding from both the Central and state governments.
He criticised opposition leaders for “blaming the government to cover up their own failures”, instead of focusing on their responsibilities, reported PTI.
As the Latur district election in-charge, Nilangekar addressed party functionaries at a meeting held to review poll preparations. He emphasised that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and CM Devendra Fadnavis, there has been no shortage of funds for Latur’s progress.
“The government is dedicated to bringing welfare schemes to every section of society,” Nilangekar said, adding that the Opposition was merely indulging in baseless criticism. He urged party members to conduct ‘panchanama meetings’ across the city to highlight the Opposition’s failures and showcase the government’s achievements.
Calling for complete unity and coordination, he said, “The lotus (BJP symbol) is our candidate,” assuring that deserving and dedicated workers would be given an opportunity to contest.
Nilangekar stressed that the next two months are crucial and called on all office-bearers and workers to dedicate themselves fully to ensure victory.
At the same meeting, Latur City BJP President Ajit Patil Kavhekar said that booth restructuring had been completed, laying a strong groundwork for the upcoming polls. He urged party workers to reach every household and communicate the BJP’s developmental initiatives, reported PTI.
Archana Patil Chakurkar, BJP’s Latur City election in-charge, added that the growing number of ticket aspirants reflected the strong trust and enthusiasm in the party’s leadership.
Congress requests physical forms alongside online submissions for Maharashtra local polls
The Congress on Thursday urged the State Election Commission (SEC) to permit offline submission of nomination forms for the upcoming Maharashtra local body elections, citing that the online process is cumbersome and could result in candidate disqualifications due to technical glitches, news agency PTI reported.
Congress Legislature Party leader Vijay Wadettiwar stated that the party delegation met State Election Commissioner Dinesh Waghmare and requested that physical forms be accepted alongside online submissions.
“The nomination form runs into about 20 pages and seeks details, such as votes polled and election expenses from the previous polls, information already available with the commission. The complicated process can result in last-minute disqualification of candidates if their online submissions face technical issues,” he said.
Wadettiwar said he and state Congress President Harshawardhan Sapkal had conveyed this concern directly to SEC.
