BJP MLA Balmukund Acharya booked following tensions outside Jaipur mosque | Jaipur News

BJP’s Hawa Mahal MLA Balmukund Acharya was booked Saturday for sloganeering outside the Jamia Masjid in Jaipur Saturday, the police have said. The incident caused tensions in the area and prompted police intervention.

According to police sources, tensions flared when the MLA and his supporters gathered outside the mosque at 10 pm Friday to begin slogans putting up posters in the area. This allegedly led another group to gather in the area and sparked heated exchanges, prompting Jaipur Commissioner Biju George – as well as Congress MLAs Rafiq Khan and Amin Kagzi — to reach the spot.

An FIR has been registered at the Manak Chowk police station following a complaint from the Jama Masjid Committee. When contacted, Khan alleged that the BJP MLA had entered the mosque with his shoes on and tried to put up some posters on the wall.

“This wasn’t merely a protest. This was a deliberate attempt to disturb the peace,” Khan told The Indian Express. “This is trespass and is unacceptable. We have got an FIR registered and intend to take this up with the higher officials.”

Calls to Balmukund Acharya went unanswered.
