The Opposition Mahagathbandhan in Bihar has promised a law guaranteeing one government job per family, and the restoration of the Old Pension Scheme in its manifesto for the Assembly election. The alliance – mainly comprising the Rashtriya Janata Dal, the Congress and three Left parties – has also promised to put the Waqf Amendment Act on hold.
In addition, the manifesto lists 25 key commitments, including 200 units of free electricity per household and monthly aid of Rs 2,500 for women.
The ruling National Democratic Alliance is expected to release its manifesto on Thursday.

The Election Commission has told Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor to respond to a report saying that he is enrolled as a voter in both West Bengal and Bihar. The Representation of the People Act states that a person cannot be registered in the electoral rolls for more than one constituency.
In West Bengal, Kishor’s address is listed as 121 Kalighat Road, which houses the Trinamool Congress headquarters in Bhabanipur, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s constituency, The Indian Express reported. Kishor had worked as a political consultant for the Trinamool Congress during the 2021 Assembly elections.
In Bihar, Kishor is registered as a voter under the Sasaram parliamentary constituency in Kargahar Assembly segment.
A member of his team said that Kishor has applied to have his voter registration in West Bengal cancelled. Read more.
The Karnataka High Court has stayed directives issued earlier this month requiring private organisations to obtain permission from the state government to conduct activities on public premises. The order, issued on October 18, was likely to impact the activities of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, the parent organisation of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
The Dharwad bench of the High Court on Tuesday stayed the directives while hearing a petition by the Hubballi-based Punashchetana Seva Samsthe. The lawyer for the petitioners argued that the directives violated the fundamental rights guaranteed under the Constitution.
The state government’s directives had come days after Karnataka Information Technology Minister Priyank Kharge wrote to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah seeking a ban on RSS activities in all public spaces. Read more.
Opposition leaders have described the Election Commission’s announcement about a special intensive revision of the electoral rolls in 12 states and Union Territories as an “attempt to undermine democracy”. The parties alleged that the exercise was aimed at disenfranchising voters as several states head to polls in 2026.
“Under the guise of [special intensive revision], 6.9 million votes were slashed in Bihar,” the Congress said in a social media post. “Now tens of millions of votes will be slashed in 12 states.
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan also described the Election Commission’s decision to conduct the revision in his state as “an affront to our democratic process”.
Of the states and Union Territories where the exercise will take place, Assembly elections are scheduled for Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Kerala and Puducherry in 2026. Read more.
