Bhool Chuk Maaf (Hindi) went into the field by offering deep discounts on ticket rates in many locations. As per some reports, the discounts were as high as Rs 100 on a ticket costing Rs 150 or so. So, did the gamble pay off?
As per early trade reports, the May 23rd release registered excellent openings. The film delivered a surprise on its opening day, surpassing initial industry expectations with a net collection of Rs 7.20 crore (Indian box office). The impressive Day 1 performance, recorded on Friday, defeated discouraging projections. The tide turned with strong last-minute ticket purchases, a trade analyst added. “National cinema chains reported excellent business, but the success wasn’t limited to urban centers. Business in regions beyond the metros, as well as at non-national chains, was equally strong,” wrote Taran Adarsh.
Bhool Chuk Maaf, starring Rajkumar Rao in the lead, however, garnered negative reviews. “As a time-loop comedy, it goes completely overboard with its central premise without being able to create a logical context for the perplexing goings-on in the life of a lad trapped in a limbo,” wrote NDTV, which gave just 2 stars. India Today gave 1.5 stars.
