Auto driver who abducted and killed woman, shot dead in UP encounter | Lucknow News

THE LUCKNOW police on Friday shot dead an autorickshaw driver accused of abducting and strangulating to death a woman, whose body was found two days ago in a mango orchard in Malihabad. Police claimed hat the accused might have attempted to rape her and killed her when she resisted.

The victim, who was in her 30s, had gone missing after returning from another district and was going to a close relative’s residence in an autorickshaw when the accused, Ajay Kumar, 26, who was driving the vehicle, abducted her, police said. Ajay Kumar had 23 criminal cases against him and carried a reward of Rs 1 lakh for information leading to his arrest, said Assistant Commissioner of Police Rishabh Yadav.

Earlier in the day, the police arrested Ajay’s 35-year-old brother, Dinesh Kumar, in connection with the case. However, Ajay had then managed to escape, said Lucknow DCP Vishwajeet Srivastava. The police recovered the victim’s educational certificates from Dinesh’s possession.

According to the police, they received information on Friday evening that Ajay would be passing through Malihabad on a motorcycle. Upon spotting police personnel, he opened fire. The police retaliated and he was injured. Police took him to a hospital where he died.
