Summary: Apple published a new ad for Apple Intelligence, showing off the photo clean up feature in a short and sweet ad. However, it’s possibly the only “good” feature of Apple Intelligence where the rest of the AI’s features are very underwhelming.
Let’s face it. Everyone knows that Apple Intelligence is underwhelming. Actually, underwhelming doesn’t even come close. Its features are so basic that it doesn’t even seem particularly “smart” to begin with.
Apple Intelligence photo clean up
However, Apple doesn’t want us to forget what it can do. The company has recently published a new ad for Apple Intelligence that shows off some of its capabilities, like the ability to clean up a photo from unwanted objects.
Object removal is one of the most basic features you can expect from AI on a phone. Many mobile AI systems already have that feature, so it’s no surprise that Apple has included it in Apple Intelligence as well. The video shows a man having his photo taken by his (presumably) mother.
However, when he finds the best photo, he realizes she is in the shot. Normally, that would be a pain to remove. However, with a few taps here and there, Apple Intelligence cleaned up his photo.
Apple has a long way to go
I’ll admit, out of all the Apple Intelligence features I’ve tried, the photo clean-up feature is probably the most effective. Even then, it’s not that great. Several videos show that Samsung’s Galaxy AI does a way better job of object removal than Apple Intelligence.
Apple has also faced some controversy with Apple Intelligence. So much so that some users filed a lawsuit against Apple alleging false advertising. The company was also supposed to roll out a revamped Siri powered by Apple Intelligence. However, that feature has been delayed, which has also led to more lawsuits.
Apple will release iOS 19 later this year. Rumors suggest it won’t focus on new Apple Intelligence features, but instead on a revamped UI that reportedly takes heavy inspiration from visionOS. In any case, the more Apple delays, the worse it will look for them, especially in this day and age when AI is all the hype and rage.
