Apple Intelligence Is a Joke — But That Might Not Matter Yet

Apple Intelligence is a flat-out joke. For a company that makes some of the most beautiful pieces of hardware in the market today, its efforts in AI are downright laughable, especially since its competitors like Google and Samsung are making tremendous headway. However, the struggles Apple faces with its AI efforts don’t matter for the time being, at least that’s what Apple analyst Gene Munster believes.

Apple’s struggles with AI

According to Munster, there are two very specific reasons why he thinks Apple’s struggles with AI won’t matter in the near future. These reasons are tied to Apple’s hardware advantage. For starters, Munster estimates that the average Apple customer has 1.7 devices. Because Apple devices work so seamlessly together, he believes it’s one of the reasons the company’s customers will remain loyal, even if its AI efforts are terrible.

Secondly, he claims that existing AI put out by the competition is still behind the curve. While some of them have AI features that perform better than Apple Intelligence, none of them are necessarily unique enough to make Apple users jump ship. He also points out that AI seems like an afterthought for most devices, and that until an AI-first device launches, it won’t be enough to make loyal Apple users switch platforms.

What’s interesting is that Munster mentions Jony Ive and Sam Altman’s partnership. Both Ive and Altman announced a collaboration in which they are building an AI device. Munster thinks that this could be what lights the fire under Apple’s behind.

He’s not completely wrong

It might be easy to paint Munster’s comments as being pro-Apple. But he’s not completely wrong. Apple is in a unique position, unlike some of its competition. It builds and develops its own hardware and software. This means that the company has a bigger say in what goes on and how things work together.

This is compared to competitors like Samsung, which largely relies on Google for Android. It also gets some help with Gemini features, too. You could argue that Google is similar to Apple. However, that isn’t entirely true. Google’s Pixel phones still rely on tech from other companies. Plus, as the company behind Android, Google is somewhat obligated to ensure some form of parity regarding features across its Android partners.

We’re not excusing Apple’s lackluster AI efforts here. But only time will tell if Apple’s efforts will pay off, or if it will go down as yet another company that failed to keep up with the times.
