A fire broke out at the Uruli Devachi garbage depot in Pune Tuesday afternoon, but no casualties or injuries were reported, according to fire officials.
Five fire engines and multiple water tankers were dispatched to combat the fire that erupted between 2 pm and 2.30 pm. Officials said efforts to douse the fire entirely have been going on since then. The exact cause of the fire remains unknown, but officials believe it is likely due to high temperatures heating the garbage.
The Uruli Devachi garbage depot in Pune has recently experienced multiple fires, including one each in December and February. Such frequent fires have caused problems for residents in nearby areas, leading to smoke and a decline in air quality. The high frequency of these fires has raised concerns about the management of the garbage depot.
