Android 16 could bring a more colorful battery icon

Sure, a new platform upgrade brings major changes and new features, but they’re also full of minor UI tweaks. Right now, we’re getting to know some of the small changes coming with Android 16. Google recently released the latest Android 16 beta, and it could bring a color-coded battery icon.

As always, you’ll want to take this news with a grain of salt. We’re dealing with early information at the moment, and Google could make changes at any point to the operating system. There are still several months before Google officially launches Android 16, so we’ll just have to be patient.

Android 16 could have a color-coded battery icon

In stock Android, the battery icon stays the same color whether the battery is full or on the brink of dying. While that’s the case, there are other Android skins that do have color-coded battery icons. This is the case for Tecno’s HiOS and Vivo’s Fun Touch OS.

While color-coded battery icons aren’t the biggest change to the software, they can still help out a bit. Maybe there’s a time when you can’t see your battery icon perfectly clearly, so you can’t tell if it’s dying. Well, if you see a red dot on your phone, you’ll be able to tell.

If not that, then they could be a nice visual addition to the interface. In the case of Android 16’s upcoming battery icon, it looks like Google could bring a three-color scheme. The icon will be white if your battery level isn’t low, and if it’s not charging. Once you plug it in, the battery will turn green. Lastly, if your phone battery is low, and it’s not charging, it will be red. That’s the typical color scheme we’d expect from a battery icon.

Better late than never; Google has been flirting with bringing a new battery icon for a while. In fact, we expected it to come out in Android 15, but that didn’t happen. The battery icon could change, which is something most people will notice. Aside from that, a change that people might not notice is the new Wi-Fi signal icon. It currently has five signal bars, but the new version could have only three bars.
