The gaming world recently witnessed a major surprise with the announcement of Arc System Works’ MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls.his new title, which premiered at the State of Play event, has Arc System, Marvel Games, and PlayStation Studios working on it together. Core Gameplay Experience
The last time we had seen a great fighting game that the heroes from Marvel were a part of was the Capcom vs Marvel series, and it seems that the game borrows the tag team fighting system from it. The development team purposefully chose a 4v4 format to create “over-the-top moments” and to further evolve the tag fighting genre, reflecting the appeal of seeing the vast cast of Marvel characters come together. Each character features a bespoke set of Normal, Special, and Unique attacks, including “big, cinematic Ultimate Skills”.
The primary set of classic Marvel heroes and villains confirmed consists of Captain America, Iron Man, Spider-Man, Doctor Doom, Storm, Ms. Marvel, Star-Lord, and Ghost Rider (that is Robbie Reyes’ incarnation, not Johnny Blaze’s … alas). All of the characters are to be reworked via Arc System Works’ particular art and play style.

Iron Man’s arc reactor is smaller, resembling the “v-fins found on many Gundam mobile suits,” and the overall design is notably more mechanical, contrasting with the nanotech applications seen in other Marvel games. Despite differing design philosophies, MARVEL Tōkon successfully captures the essence of Iron Man that fans know and love. The game also features stages filled with easter eggs, including a statue of the Silver Age Avengers designs in the background of one stage, demonstrating that the past is not forgotten.
