E-commerce major Amazon India has announce that the company will eliminate referral fees on over 12 million products priced below ₹300 from April 7.
This is the largest seller fee reduction till date, to support small businesses selling on the platform.
The waiver will apply across more than 135 product categories including apparel, shoes, jewellery, grocery, home décor, beauty, toys, and kitchen products. Referral fee is a commission that sellers pay to Amazon for each product sold.
Apart from referral fee, Amazon India has also brought in a simplified flat shipping rate for sellers using external fulfilment channels like Easy Ship and Seller Flex with national shipping rates now starting at ₹65, down from the earlier ₹77.
Amazon Easy Ship is a logistics solution aimed at sellers, where Amazon picks up orders from the seller’s location and delivers them to the customers’ doorstep. With Seller Flex, on the other hand, Amazon manages a portion of the seller’s warehouse as an Amazon fulfilment centre.
Additionally, Amazon has reduced the weight handling fees for lightweight items under 1 kg by up to ₹17, lowering the overall fees that sellers pay to Amazon. Sellers shipping more than one product unit at a time stand to see up to 90% savings in selling fees on the second unit.
Amazon India currently hosts over 1.6 million sellers, offering products across all serviceable pin codes in India. In September 2024, Samir Kumar took over as country manager for India, replacing Manish Tiwary, who stepped down in August.
