Allahabad HC Bar questions move to transfer Delhi judge | Lucknow News

THE HIGH Court Bar Association, Allahabad, has raised questions over the Supreme Court collegium’s unanimous decision to transfer Delhi High Court judge Justice Yashwant Varma, back to his parent court, the Allahabad High Court, following a report about the recovery of cash during a fire at his residence. The association asked whether the Allahabad High Court is being treated as a “trash bin”.

The Bar association has sent a memorandum in this regard to the Chief Justice, Allahabad High Court, Judges sitting in Allahabad, The Registrar General, High Court, Allahabad, and President of Oudh Bar Association, Lucknow.

In the memorandum, President of the Bar Association and senior advocate Anil Tiwari said, “This decision of the collegeum of the Supreme Court raises a serious question as to whether the Allahabad High Court is a trash bin? This matter becomes important when we examine the current situation wherein the Allahabad High Court is short of judges and despite the continuous problems, new judges have not been appointed for the past many years. It is also of grave concern that while appointing judges by elevating members of the Bar, the Bar was never consulted.”

It added, “Consideration of eligibility appears to be not upto the mark. Something is lacking which has resulted incorruption and consequently, a great damage has been caused to the”public faith in judiciary”. We cannot say that this situation is not in the knowledge of the Hon’ble Apex Court…”
