Bollywood star Akshay Kumar is currently mourning the demise of veteran actress and dancer Madhumati, who passed away at the age of 87. The actor took to social media to share two rare throwback photos with the legendary performer and penned a touching tribute. He wrote, “My first and forever guru. Everything I know about dance, I learned at your feet, Madhumati Ji. Hara ada, Har expression mein aapki yaad hmesha saath rahegi. Om Shanti.”

About Madhumati

The veteran actress was born in Maharashtra in 1938. She developed a passion for dance from a very young age. Madhumati went on to master several classical forms, including Bharatnatyam, Kathak, Manipuri, and Kathakali. She soon became a name to reckon with in the performing arts.

She began her journey in cinema as a dancer in 1957 for an unreleased Marathi film. From there, she went on to appear in numerous films across languages, earning acclaim for her expressive performances and stage presence.

She tied the knot at the age of 19 to Deepak Manohar, a renowned dancer who was much older than her. His first wife had passed away, and though Madhumati’s mother admired him as an artist, she was initially reluctant about the union due to the age gap and family circumstances. Despite the opposition, Madhumati followed her heart and got married to Deepak. Their partnership not only strengthened her artistic path but also stood as a testament to her independent spirit and deep dedication to dance.
