Air conditioner and ice-cream makers see strong start to summer sales with March

Air conditioner and ice cream makers have seen a strong start to the summer season with its earlier than usual onset and temperatures steadily rising across the country. Early estimates suggest that the AC industry is expected to end March with 30 per cent sales growth compared to same period last year despite a high base. Ice cream players too said they have begun seeing strong double-digit growth across markets.

Kamal Nandi, Business Head & EVP at Appliances Business of Godrej Enterprises Group said, “It has been a strong start to the season. We have witnessed 100 per cent growth for our brand in March. Industry is estimated to also be growing at over 30 per cent in terms of value in the month compared to the same period in the previous year. Overall, in FY26, we anticipate sales growth of 50-60 per cent.”

B Thiagarajan, Managing Director, Blue Star Limited, said that given the unprecedented demand seen in the last season, dealers have been focusing more strongly on stocking up on AC products and consumers have also been buying cooling products earlier than usual this year. “Industry is expected to end with a sales growth of more than 30 per cent in March over previous years. Given the low penetration of the AC segment, we aim to grow at 25-30 per cent over the high base of last year and increase our market share,” he added.

Ice cream makers and seasonal dairy products have also seen strong pick-up in the month of March. Manish Bandlish, MD, Mother Dairy said, “In the month of March alone, our ice-cream portfolio has already begun witnessing a growth of more than 30 per cent compared to the same month last year. Overall, we are targeting revenues of ₹650-700 crore in FY26 from the ice cream segment. The bulk of the growth will come in the summer months, and it has been a good start to the season.”

Infact, quick commerce is expected to be a key growth channel especially in top cities for the segment. Komal Anand, MD, Havmor Ice cream said, “March has shown strong double-digit growth compared to the previous year, reflecting both early summer demand and the impact of our expanded distribution and marketing efforts. The combination of strategic product launches, increased Q-commerce presence, and favorable weather conditions has contributed to this positive momentum.”

Mohit Khattar, CEO, Graviss Foods Pvt Ltd that sells Baskin Robbins in India, said that the company has witnessed ‘green shoots’ that indicate a positive trajectory for demand in the coming months. Noting that the early onset of summer has already contributed to a steady uptick in sales, Khattar said that Baskin Robbins, has witnessed strong consumer traction, with increased footfalls and higher demand for its products in March.
