AI Mode US rollout begins, because regular Search is so last decade

Google I/O 2025 is underway with its first day about over, and one of the bigger announcements today was the full rollout of AI Mode in Google Search. AI mode was first announced and initially rolled out earlier this year, but only for a small group of testers. Now, Google is rolling it out to a much larger group of users.

AI Mode has also slowly been rolling out to more people over the past couple of months. For example, it showed up for me in Google Search a couple of weeks ago. Google Search has always been a powerful way to get the information you need or want, but AI Mode takes things to a whole other level with the power of AI, featuring “more advanced reasoning and multimodality, and the ability to go deeper through follow-up questions and helpful links to the web.” It’s really unlike anything Search has been able to do before, and soon a lot more people are going to get to use it.

Google begins full US rollout of AI Mode starting today

If you haven’t been able to try out AI Mode yet, you won’t be waiting too much longer. If you’re in the US, at least. Google has confirmed today that all Google Search users in the US will be getting access to AI Mode starting today. What the company doesn’t say, however, is whether or not it’s turning the lights on for everyone at the same time.

These things are usually staggered rollouts, so don’t be surprised if you don’t have access right away. Realistically, it’s probably going to take a few days for all US users to see AI Mode pop up in Search for them. Some will have access today, and most or all US users should have access by the end of the week.

Gemini 2.5 is coming to Search later this week

To make AI Mode an even more powerful tool, Google is bolstering it with the usefulness of Gemini 2.5. Google says Gemini 2.5 is its most powerful version of Gemini yet, and it’ll be available in Search both for AI Mode and AI Overviews, also for US users only at this time.

AI Mode is also getting a new feature called Deep Search, which Google is currently working on. Deep Search is a way to use AI Mode and have it perform hundreds of searches for you on your behalf. It can then reason across all those pieces of information and provide you with a fully-cited report, Google says.
