Russian President Vladimir Putin has reiterated Moscow’s willingness to engage in talks with Ukraine without any preconditions, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, according to Reuters. This came after US President Donald Trump Thursday responded to the overnight Russian attacks on Ukraine’s Kyiv, saying he is “not happy,” and asked President Putin to ‘stop’.
Peskov, quoted by Interfax and reported by Reuters, said Putin conveyed his willingness to talk with Ukraine during a three-hour meeting in Moscow on Friday with Steve Witkoff, US President Donald Trump’s envoy tasked with discussing Washington’s plan to end the war in Ukraine.
After Witkoff’s meeting, Trump had remarked that both sides were “very close to a deal“, despite some apparent differences in their positions.
