Aamir Khan is all set to be honoured with the first-ever RK Laxman Award for Excellence, a brand-new accolade introduced as a tribute to the legendary cartoonist. Widely regarded as one of the most talented and influential superstars in Indian cinema, Aamir has delivered some of the most memorable and impactful films over his long career. With a body of work that spans decades, he has carved out a unique legacy, earning admiration not just for his acting but also for his commitment to meaningful and thought-provoking cinema. This makes him an apt choice to receive an award that celebrates excellence in creative endeavour.

 The RK Laxman family has announced the inaugural award to pay homage to the iconic artist, and Aamir Khan has been confirmed as its very first recipient. The award ceremony is scheduled to take place on November 23 2025 at the MCA Cricket Stadium in Pune. Adding a special touch to the event, a live performance by Oscar-winning composer A.R. Rahman will accompany the presentation, blending music, memories and celebration to honour the life and work of RK Laxman, who created one of India’s most beloved characters The Common Man.

Speaking about the occasion, Usha Laxman, the late cartoonist’s daughter-in-law, shared that the family wanted the event to be a heartfelt tribute. She highlighted that the award and the accompanying Rahman concert were intended to celebrate RK Laxman’s enduring legacy. Confirming that Aamir Khan would receive the inaugural honour, she added that this would be one of the most significant tributes the family could offer to their beloved Laxman, recognising not only his artistic brilliance but also his impact on Indian culture.
