With the Huawei Pura X, the Chinese multinational and technology company has introduced an innovative smartphone that combines book style and clamshell foldable designs.
The Huawei Pura X is revolutionizing the foldable phone experience by offering dual-orientation usability, allowing users to switch between book-style and clamshell modes effortlessly. This groundbreaking innovation enhances versatility, making it ideal for both productivity and entertainment. Exclusively launched in China, the Pura X will officially go on sale starting March 21, 2025, marking a new era in foldable technology.
Design and Display
The device is supposed to feature a 6.3-inch LTPO OLED main display with a 16:10 aspect ratio and a refresh rate of 120 Hz. When unfolded, it measures 143.2 mm in height and 91.7 mm in width, thus making it wider than most smartphones and foldable phones in recent years.
Once folded, the Huawei Pura X transforms into a compact and portable device, measuring just 91.7 mm by 74.3 mm, making it incredibly easy to carry. Its innovative side-positioned hinge offers a fresh take on usability, enabling seamless transitions between folded and unfolded modes. This unique design enhances both ergonomics and functionality, setting it apart from traditional foldables.
The cover screen which measures 3.5 inches provides various functionalities including customizable live wallpapers, quick access to messaging and heal apps, calls, and media playback. Calls are designed to be taken with the device in its folded state with an earpiece placed next to the LED flash for convenience.
Camera System
With three main cameras arranged in a single row, the Pura X has an impressive camera configuration. The setup consists of an 8 MP telephoto lens with 3.5x optical zoom and OIS, a 40 MP ultrawide camera, and a 50 MP wide camera with an f/1.6 aperture and RYYB sensor. A spectral image sensor, which was first used in the Mate 70 Pro series, also improves image quality.
The Huawei Pura X features a 10 MP front-facing camera seamlessly integrated within the main display’s punch-hole, ensuring crystal-clear video calls and high-quality selfies. Whether the device is fully unfolded for a tablet-like experience or partially folded for convenience, users can enjoy sharp, detailed visuals during video conversations. This advanced front camera guarantees seamless communication, making virtual meetings and personal chats more immersive and professional.
Battery and Performance
In keeping with its recent product announcements, Huawei has not revealed information regarding the chipset that powers the Pura X. Instead of the expected HarmonyOS Next, the phone runs AOSP-based HarmonyOS 5.0.
The device’s 4,720 mAh battery is divided into two cells for efficiency. Both 40W wireless and 66W wired charging are supported. The best performance is maintained with the aid of sophisticated heat dissipation components, such as a graphite plate with a thermal conductivity of 2000 W/m.k.
