Ashok Leyland, the flagship company of the Hinduja Group, has secured multiple defence orders worth over ₹700 crore for supplying specialized military vehicles to the Indian Armed Forces, the company announced today.
The orders include a range of vehicles such as the Stallion 4×4, Stallion 6×6, Short Chassis Bus, and Mobility System Travelling Platform, designed for troop transportation, logistics, and mobility requirements under the Close-in Weapon Systems (CIWS) program. Deliveries are expected to commence in the next financial year.
“For decades, Ashok Leyland has been a trusted partner in Defence mobility. We are proud to have secured these new orders, which reinforce Ashok Leyland’s leadership in the sector,” said Shenu Agarwal, MD & CEO of Ashok Leyland.
The vehicles are designed to operate in challenging terrains while maintaining reliability for various operational requirements of the armed forces. Amandeep Singh, President of Defence Business at Ashok Leyland, noted that the company supports the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative through indigenous design and manufacturing in the defence mobility sector.
Ashok Leyland has been the largest supplier of logistics vehicles to the Indian Army, with platforms ranging from 4×4 to 12×12 configurations. The company has developed specialized capabilities for military-specific requirements, including armored vehicles.
The Chennai-based manufacturer has been operating in the defence sector for several decades, with its military-spec vehicles forming a crucial part of the Indian Army’s logistics fleet. These new orders strengthen its position in India’s growing defence manufacturing industry, which has seen increased government focus on domestic production under the Make in India initiative.
Industry analysts note that India’s push for self-reliance in defence procurement has created significant opportunities for established players like Ashok Leyland, which have the manufacturing capability and technical expertise to meet military specifications while maintaining high reliability standards.
