A man was viciously attacked with a knife after ash from his cigarette accidentally fell on a person in Thane, police said on Friday, reported news agency PTI.
The incident took place around 4.45 am on Wednesday in the Wagle Estate area, an official said.
The 31-year-old victim was travelling in a friend`s vehicle when ash from the cigarette that he had lit fell on accused Naman Langhe, reported PTI.
When he and his friend stopped near a bar after a few minutes, Langhe, one Sujal Sajekar and a third person arrived on a scooter and allegedly launched an attack.
Sajekar allegedly held the victim, while Langhe stabbed him on the right hand and head with a sharp weapon, the official said, citing the complaint, reported PTI.
A case has been registered at the Wagle Estate police station against Langhe, Sajekar and an unidentified man for attempted murder and other charges under the Bharitya Nyaya Sanhita, the official said, reported PTI.
“We are actively working to trace and apprehend all three individuals involved in this vicious attack,” he added.
Man wanted in 25-year-old assault case held
In another case, a man accused of assaulting a person 25 years ago in central Mumbai, was arrested in western Maharashtra`s Satara district on Thursday, police said, reported PTI.
The accused, identified as Vilas Ganpat Ghorpade, was apprehended on November 18, an official said, reported PTI.
Ghorpade and his aide had assaulted a person at Kalachowki in central Mumbai in 2000.
He was absconding since the incident, while the police had arrested his aide.
The court had issued a warrant against Ghorpade, the official said, adding that a drive was launched for his arrest, reported PTI.
Police recently got information that he was staying in Satara to evade arrest, following which a team of investigators went there and apprehended Ghorpade, he said.
Man kills wife, surrenders before police
Meanwhile, a 56-year-old man allegedly murdered his wife on Thursday as he suspected her character and later surrendered before police, said an official.
The accused was identified as Siraj Naik, resident of Kachha Road in Malvani area of the city, reported PTI.
Naik allegedly killed his wife Mumtaz by hitting her on the head with a large stone, and went to the nearby police station hours later, reported PTI.
He was booked for murder and further investigation is underway, the official said.
