The anti-narcotics cell (ANC) has issued a summons to Orhan Awatramani, popularly known as Orry, for questioning after Dubai-based drug kingpin Salim Suhail Shaikh reportedly claimed that he organised multiple drug-laced parties attended by the social media influencer. A senior Mumbai Police officer on Wednesday confirmed that Orry has been directed to appear before the ANC’s Ghatkopar Unit at 10 am on Thursday.
Shaikh allegedly told investigators that he hosted drug-fuelled parties in Mumbai, Goa and Dubai, which—according to his unverified claims—were attended by Bollywood personalities, a film director, the son of a well-known actor, a Page-3 figure, a former Mumbai politician and even a relative of fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim.
Investigators said new leads have surfaced during the probe, and Orry’s statement is required to verify whether he had any direct or indirect connection with the narcotics syndicate or with the Dubai-linked gatherings under scrutiny.
“This is a routine step in the investigation,” an ANC officer said, adding that more high-profile individuals may be summoned as the case progresses.
The summons comes even as the ANC is examining Shaikh’s statements, recorded during his interrogation after his arrest in the Rs 252-crore mephedrone case.
Shaikh was extradited from Dubai and arrested by the ANC`s Ghatkopar Unit on November 5. He is suspected to be part of an international mephedrone network that operated clandestine labs across Maharashtra and used courier channels for distribution. His name first surfaced after the Rs 252-crore Sangli drug manufacturing unit was busted in March 2024.
The police emphasised that Shaikh’s allegations remain unverified.
“Every claim is being cross-checked with digital and financial evidence. No individual has been named as an accused in this context so far,” a senior officer clarified.
Sources further said Shaikh, believed to be close to Dawood aide Salim Dola, also claimed that Dola organised similar high-profile gatherings where narcotics were supplied. Shaikh purportedly admitted that he attended several such events alongside Dola.
The police said the investigation is progressing “strictly and fairly on the basis of evidence”.
