Lakshmi Manchu recently opened up about facing abuse as a teenager and made a powerful statement on how normalised harassment has become. The actress, who is also Mohan Babu’s daughter, spoke about how she was sheltered while growing up but had a traumatic experience while on a public transportation.

During a conversation with Hauterrfly, she said that she was touched inappropriately and didn’t know how to process the feeling. The actress shared, “The violation I faced…what is this ugly feeling? I was 15 years old then. I don’t know if they knew I was a little child. I moved away and didn’t get into a fight. I shared it with my girlfriends, and they said it happened to them too. I wasn’t picked as a special girl for this to happen. It happens to everyone.”

She expressed her disappointment at the fact that such instances have become so common that if a girl says she hasn’t faced this on a public transport, she’d probably be lying. She further recalled the MeToo movement, sharing how reading a Women’s Commission flier brought her to tears as everything listed on the document mirrored something she had experienced at some stage of her life.

Lakshmi also addressed how being born into a well-known film family comes with additional caution.  The actress continued, “Sometimes people will want to mess with you when you’re from a big family because we won’t come out and say it. A theft happens in my house, and I can’t go out and say it. Let the ₹15,000 go, that’s how I have been raised. Be careful with your things, but if it goes out, you don’t want to put your name out there unnecessarily.”

On the work front, she was last seen in the film Daksha: A Deadly Conspiracy.
