The first visuals from Christopher Nolan’s ambitious new film The Odyssey are finally here, giving fans a glimpse into his retelling of Homer’s legendary Greek epic. The exclusive images, shared through Empire magazine, reveal the characters played by Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway and Mia Goth. The film features Matt Damon in the lead role as Odysseus and is scheduled to release in theatres on July 17, 2026.
Tom Holland takes on the role of Telemachus, the son of Odysseus. His first look shows him suited in armour, wearing a determined expression that hints at the weight his character carries in the story. The poster has already sparked excitement among fans who have been waiting for updates since the project was announced.

Anne Hathaway, who has earlier worked with Nolan in Interstellar and The Dark Knight Rises, appears as Penelope, the loyal wife of Odysseus. In the first poster, she is dressed in a royal blue gown with a red sash, holding a bow as she gazes into the distance.

Mia Goth, known for Pearl, will play Melantho, one of Penelope’s maids. She stands behind Hathaway in a simple brown costume, suggesting the contrast between the two characters’ lives.

Nolan has gone all out for this film. He recently revealed that he shot over two million feet of 65mm film to capture the story, a choice that reportedly cost around 3 million Dollars. The entire movie has been filmed on IMAX, with the director sharing that the team even shot on open seas to recreate the scale of Odysseus’ long and dangerous journey home after the Trojan War. He described the shoot as “pretty primal,” saying the experience helped the cast truly understand the hardships of ancient voyages.
