A case has been registered against two female domestic helps for allegedly stealing ornaments worth Rs 16.25 lakh from a 61-year-old woman doctor`s home in Maharashtra`s Thane district, an official said on Thursday, reported news agency PTI.

The theft was committed between August and November 11 at the complainant`s house located on Murbad Road in Kalyan, said the official from Mahatma Phule Chowk police station.

The accused, aged 45 and 21, are residents of Kalyan and Dombivli, respectively, though their full addresses are yet to be ascertained, the official said, reported PTI.

“The complainant approached us after noticing that her gold ornaments were missing. The total value of the stolen property has been estimated at Rs 16.25 lakh. We are hopeful of tracing the accused soon,” the official said, reported PTI.

Two held for stealing train passenger`s bag

In another case, two men have been arrested for allegedly stealing a passenger`s bag containing valuables worth Rs 1.65 lakh on the Mumbai-Gondia Vidarbha Express, officials said on Thursday, reported PTI.

The incident took place between Thane and Kalyan stations, on the outskirts of Mumbai, on Monday.

Senior inspector Pandhari Kande of the Kalyan railway police station said that complainant Mayur Dilip Amritkar (30), a resident of Nashik, had come to Thane for some work. He later boarded the Vidarbha Express from Thane station for his return journey, reported PTI.

Amritkar had kept his laptop bag, containing cash, a camera, and other valuables, near his reserved seat close to the door in sleeper coach number five. “While adjusting his luggage, he noticed that the bag was missing. He lodged a complaint with the railway police after the train reached Kalyan,” the official said, reported PTI.

Using CCTV footage and technical inputs, the railway police nabbed the two thieves within two and a half hours and recovered all the stolen items worth Rs 1.65 lakh, the official said, adding that the complainant`s belongings were returned to him.

Man shot at by relative over land dispute in Thane; six held

Meanwhile, a 27-year-old man was injured when his cousin brother allegedly fired at him following a land dispute in Maharashtra`s Thane district, leading to the arrest of six persons, police said on Wednesday, reported PTI.

The incident took place on Tuesday evening at Lonad village in the Bhiwandi area.

The victim was heading to a hospital on his motorbike when his relative, along with two other persons, waylaid him and fired at him from a revolver at point-blank range before fleeing, a police official said, reported PTI.
