Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that those responsible for the blast in Delhi on Monday, which left at least eight people dead, will not be spared. Speaking at an event in the Bhutanese capital Thimphu, Modi said that “our agencies will get to the bottom of this conspiracy”.

On Monday at about 6.52 pm, a Hyundai i20 car exploded near the Red Fort metro station. While the cause of the blast is not yet clear, the police have filed a case under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act and the Explosives Act.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired review meetings with senior officials on Tuesday. He said that he had instructed them “to hunt down each and every culprit behind this incident”. Read on.

The voter turnout in the second and final phase of the Bihar Assembly elections was 67.14% till 5 pm, according to the Election Commission. The provisional turnout for the day was awaited. Voting took place in 122 of the 243 Assembly seats in the state.

During the day, the Rashtriya Janata Dal alleged that Bharatiya Janata Party polling agents were distributing slips with the photographs of leaders of the ruling National Democratic Alliance, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and the party’s election symbol to voters inside polling booths in the state’s Motihari Assembly constituency.

The Commission for Air Quality Management has imposed Stage 3 restrictions under the Graded Response Action Plan to control pollution in the National Capital Region. This came after the air quality in Delhi plummeted to the “severe” level.

Stage 3 measures of the plan include a ban on non-essential construction work and the closure of stone crushers and mining activities. They also include the shifting of primary school up to Class 5 to hybrid mode. Parents and students have the option to choose between offline and online classes wherever available.

The Air Quality Index in the national capital rose sharply from 362 on Monday to 425 early on Tuesday morning due to calm winds, a stable atmosphere and unfavourable weather conditions that allowed pollutants to accumulate close to the surface. Read on.

The Supreme Court has directed the Election Commission to respond within two weeks on petitions filed against the revision of voter rolls in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal. Several petitions have been filed in the two states against the exercise over concerns that the special intensive revision of voter rolls could disenfranchise eligible voters.

The bench on Tuesday asked the petitioners why they were so apprehensive about the exercise. It also noted that if the bench was satisfied with the reasoning provided, it would annul the exercise. Read on.
