At least eight persons were killed after an explosion occurred in a car parked near gate number one of the Red Fort metro station in Delhi on Monday, ANI quoted the medical superintendent of Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan as saying.
“Fifteen people have been brought to Lok Nayak Hospital,” the official told the news agency. “Eight of them died before reaching the hospital. Three are seriously injured. One is in stable condition.”
Three to four other vehicles had also caught fire due to the explosion, ANI quoted the city’s fire department as saying.
The cause of the explosion is not immediately clear.
The metro station is located in the vicinity of the Red Fort, in the Old Delhi area, and is among the most popular tourist sites in the national capital.
