Mumbai: Elderly, near-blind dog, mobile phones stolen from Andheri home

Mumbai Elderly near blind dog mobile phones stolen from Andheri home

A dog has been taken away and three mobile phones stolen from the residence of Anusha Srinivas Iyer at Four Bungalows in Andheri West. The family believes three men whom they had employed are responsible for the theft. Iyer, who lives with her mother Krishnaveni Srinivasan and two children, said, “We host many rescued animals and Kunju (the stolen dog) is one of them. He is elderly, blind in one eye and has cataract in the other. He requires a lot of medical attention.”

Six months ago, needing more house help at their residence, Iyer contacted Shankar Shahi, who got the family in touch with three men —Tilak Pariyar, Vicky Pariyar, and Sandesh Bishwakarma. Based on CCTV footage, the family suspects their involvement in the theft. “One of them had asked me to relieve them of their duties, saying they wanted to quit, and I was okay with it. I told him to work till November 10, when I would give him his salary. But they stole Kunju and the phones before that and fled.”

According to Iyer, at 8.30 am on October 20, Bishwakarma stated that he was taking Kunju for a walk, which was normal. “As we were asleep in the morning, the other two, who were pretending to clean the balcony, took advantage, stole the mobile phones from us, and ran away,” said Iyer.

Iyer and her family host a total of 15 dogs and 20 cats. Iyer’s mother, Krishnaveni, 77, is extremely attached to Kunju emotionally. “We don’t care about the phones. Kunju is more important to us. My mother really loves him and is very saddened after he was taken away. We just want him back as soon as possible,” said Iyer, who suspects that Kunju was taken away as one of the three men might have got attached to him.

The three phones reported stolen are a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4, a Redmi A5 and another Redmi phone, which the Versova police have estimated to be worth more than Rs 47,000 in total. Police Sub-Inspector Mukesh Patil from the Versova police station told mid-day, “The suspects have been located outside Mumbai, and we are coordinating with the local police to nab them there. We will inform the complainants as soon as we have confirmation.”
