A row erupted in Madhya Pradesh as Bharatiya Janata Party MP Ganesh Singh on Friday slapped a crane operator after the equipment malfunctioned during an event to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in Satna, The Indian Express reported.
The MP was using the hydraulic crane to garland a statue of BR Ambedkar. The glitch left the leader briefly stranded mid-air.
A video posted by PTI on social media showed that while being lowered to the ground, the MP pulled the hand of the crane operator, Ganesh Kushwaha, a municipal employee, and slapped him in front of officials and bystanders.

Singh, who has been the Satna MP since 2004, denied that he had slapped the operator, PTI reported.
“I have not slapped anyone, I just scolded him,” Singh told PTI. “It is a tamasha [drama] created by the Congress people.”
The Times of India quoted a statement issued by the MP’s office as saying that the leader had lost balance and suffered leg and back injuries because of the sudden jolt in the movement of the crane.
The Congress criticised Singh’s action.
“That innocent one’s fault was so much that he went to rescue the MP stuck in the crane!” the party’s state unit said on social media. “In BJP representatives, arrogance and feudal mentality are riding high on their heads!”
