This Diwali season turned out to be a treat for moviegoers as two very different films, Thamma and Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat, managed to perform strongly at the box office. Both movies have struck a chord with audiences in India and overseas, crossing a combined total of over 150 crores in worldwide collections within just five days of release.
Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna’s horror comedy Thamma continues its impressive run as part of the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe. The film began its journey on a festive high, earning 24 crore net on Diwali day, and though it saw a midweek dip, the collections bounced back over the weekend. On day five, Thamma earned 13 crores, marking a 30 percent rise from Friday’s figures. Its five-day India total now stands at 78.60 crore net, translating to about 94.25 crore gross.

Overseas, the film had a modest start since Diwali is not a holiday in most regions, but business picked up during the weekend. So far, the film has collected close to 16 crore globally from international markets, bringing its worldwide total to around 110 crores by the end of Saturday. Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, the film features Ayushmann as a journalist entangled between two vampires, played by Rashmika and Nawazuddin Siddiqui.
Meanwhile, Milap Zaveri’s romantic drama Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat has become a pleasant surprise. Starring Harshvardhan Rane and Sonam Bajwa, the film opened at 9 crores on Diwali and maintained steady numbers through the week. With a Saturday collection of 5.75 crore, its five-day total stands at 34 crore net and 42.50 crore gross in India. Overseas, the film added another 1.7 crore, taking its global total beyond 44 crores.

Together, Thamma and Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat have amassed a combined worldwide gross of approximately 154 crores in just five days, a solid performance for two non-franchise films released during the same festive week. Both movies are expected to continue their successful run into the second weekend as audiences keep pouring in.
