Dispute between neighbours leads to murder in Mumbai two brothers

A 48-YEAR-old man died after allegedly being assaulted by two brothers in Worli area of South Mumbai. According to Mumbai Police, the incident took place on the evening of October 10 after the accused brothers attacked the victim, Hussain Mohammad Umar Shaikh, in a fit of rage after learning that he had beaten up one of their daughters earlier that morning.

Based on the complaint filed by the brother of the victim, Hasan Mohammad Umar Shaikh, the Worli Police arrested the brothers identified as Yogesh Dheever, 43, and Sameer Dheever, 40, both residents of BDD Chawl No. 14, Worli, on Saturday.

According to the police, Hussain lived in the adjacent BDD Chawl No 15 and worked as a mixer-grinder repair technician. On Friday morning, Hussain allegedly hit Yogesh’s daughter, which led to tensions between the two families. Yogesh, who works as a ward boy at a reputed hospital, and his brother Sameer were at work at the time of the incident.

After returning home in the evening and learning about the incident, the brothers confronted Hussain. During the heated argument that followed, they allegedly beat him.

According to the police, Hussain collapsed during the assault and became unresponsive. Following the incident, his brother Hasan, along with neighbours, rushed him to Nair Hospital in Mumbai Central, where doctors declared him brought dead.

Following the incident, the Worli Police registered a case under sections 103(1), 115(2), 117(2), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), based on the complaint filed by Hasan.

Police said Yogesh and Sameer were arrested on Saturday and produced before a holiday court, where advocates Nirali Sharma and Umesh Kumar represented them. After hearing both the sides, the magistrate remanded the two brothers in police custody until October 14.

According to the police, the assault stemmed from a personal dispute between the neighbours, triggered by the alleged earlier attack on Yogesh’s daughter. “Our investigation so far indicates that the assault was spontaneous, following a quarrel. A detailed inquiry is underway,” said Senior Police Inspector Arvind Patil of Worli police station, adding that they are waiting for the post-mortem report to determine the exact cause of death.
