The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) on Friday said that it has seized 7.95 kg of cocaine from two female passengers arriving from Bangkok at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in Mumbai, officials said.

The seized narcotics have an estimated value of Rs 79.5 crore in the illegal market, they said.

According to the officials, based on specific intelligence, the DRI officials intercepted the two women shortly after they landed in Mumbai. A detailed search of their baggage revealed 22 brick-shaped packets of a white powdery substance cleverly hidden inside toy packages. The substance was tested using the NDPS field testing kit and confirmed to be cocaine.

The drugs were seized under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, and both women were arrested and later remanded to judicial custody, said the officials, adding that a further investigation is ongoing to trace the broader network involved in this smuggling attempt.

In a statement, the DRI said that it remains committed to building a `Nasha Mukt Bharat` (Drug-Free India) by intercepting narcotics, breaking international smuggling syndicates, and protecting the health, safety, and security of the nation.
