Gandhi Jayanti is, without a doubt, a special day for every Indian. It is when we celebrate the life of the father of our nation, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. His teachings and take on life are mantras that everyone follows, not only in India but in the world. Over the years, several Indian films have been released on this auspicious day and have gone on to do well at the box office. So, we decided to explore the films that have been released on Gandhi Jayanti, including the recent ones. Â
1. Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari (2025)

Cast: Varun Dhawan, Janhvi Kapoor, Sanya Malhotra, Rohit Saraf, Maniesh Paul, Akshay Oberoi, Abhinav Sharma
The rom-com follows Sunny Sanskari (Varun Dhawan), who is hopelessly in love with Ananya (Sanya Malhotra). But she leaves him for Vikram (Rohit Saraf), a billionaire. Determined to win her back, Sunny vows to sabotage the wedding. Soon, he learns that Vikram, too, has broken up with his girlfriend Tulsi (Janhvi Kapoor) for Ananya. Sunny then proposes a pact with Tulsi. They will crash the wedding together and reclaim their exes.
2. Kantara Chapter 1 (2025)
Director: Rishab Shetty
Cast: Rishab Shetty, Rukmini Vasanth, Sapthami Gowda, Kishore, Achyuth Kumar
Kantara: Chapter 1 serves as a prequel to the 2022 blockbuster Kantara, which became a cultural phenomenon with its unique blend of folklore, mysticism and action. The story focuses on the struggles of a community defending their land and culture against modern pressures while grappling with spiritual and supernatural elements.
3. War (2019)
Director: Sidharth Anand
Cast: Hrithik Roshan, Tiger Shroff and Vaani Kapoor
This was your typical all-out action entertainer that Bollywood fans would ideally call paisa vasool. Hrithik and Tiger are at their best as they flaunt their moves and perform incredible stunts with ease. Vaani too manages to make an impact despite lesser screen time.
4. Mohandas (2019)
Director: P. Sheshadri
Cast: Param Swamy, Samarth Hombal, Shruti, Anant Mahadevan
Mohandas, made in Hindi and Kannada, is a biographical film about Mahatma Gandhi’s childhood. It follows the events of his life from the ages of 6 to 14.
5. Singh is Bliing (2015)
Director: Ashvini Yardi
Cast: Akshay Kumar and Amy Jackson
Singh Is Bliing was a remake of the Korean movie My Wife is a Gangster 3. The film had a great opening, but overall, the film’s box-office collections were termed as average by trade analysts at the time.

Cast: Irrfan Khan, Konkona Sen Sharma, Neeraj Kabi
Talvar is loosely based on the 2008 Noida double murder case involving a teenage girl and her family’s servant. It focuses on the investigation from three different perspectives.
7. Bang Bang (2014)

Cast: Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif
Bang Bang was a film based on the Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz starrer Knight and Day, which was a big hit worldwide. The film featured two strangers who happen to cross each other’s path and set off on an epic journey.
8. Haider (2014)
Director: Vishal Bhardwaj
Cast: Shahid Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor, Tabu and KK Menon
Haider was Vishal Bhardwaj’s adaptation of Hamlet by William Shakespeare and Basharat Peer’s memoir Curfewed Night. Acting, story, screenplay, music… Haider was a film that got everything right.
9. Besharam (2013)
Director: Abhinav Singh Kashyap
Cast: Ranbir Kapoor, Pallavi Sharda, Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor
Besharam was probably Ranbir Kapoor’s riskiest project, and even though it might not have worked as well as expected, it showed the actor certainly isn’t one to limit himself to conventional methods. The film also featured Ranbir sharing the screen with his parents, late Rishi Kapoor, and Neetu Kapoor for the very first time.
