Navi Mumbai Police in Maharashtra on Monday arrested a 35-year-old man for allegedly murdering his wife at their residence in Seawoods, police said.

The accused, identified as Raju Kakde, reportedly stabbed his wife, Jyoti Raju Kakde (30), three times on suspicion that she was involved in an extramarital relationship.

According to officials from the NRI Police Station, the incident came to light on Sunday morning after neighbours heard a commotion from the couple’s residence.

Police rushed to the spot and found Jyoti dead under suspicious circumstances. Her husband, Raju, was taken into custody on Monday, 29th September, at around 10 am.

Devendra Pol, Senior Police Inspector, NRI Police Station, said, “The couple had been living in Seawoods for the past two years. Before moving to Navi Mumbai, they resided in Pune.”

Police sources said that even in Pune, Raju often accused his wife of being in a relationship with another man, leading to frequent quarrels between the two. In an attempt to start afresh, they shifted to Seawoods. However, Raju’s suspicions reportedly continued, further straining their marriage.

“Preliminary investigations suggest that the motive behind the murder was Raju’s growing suspicion over his wife’s character. He frequently accused her of infidelity, and the arguments escalated into a violent confrontation last night, which resulted in Jyoti’s death,” said Pol.

Police have registered a case under Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 103 (murder) against Raju.

Family members and neighbours described Jyoti as a soft-spoken woman who largely kept to herself. Locals expressed shock over the crime, stating that they had never expected such an incident in their neighbourhood.

“The accused has been arrested and has been sent to police custody till 4th October 2025, and investigations are underway. We are verifying all aspects, including the timeline of the couple’s strained relationship and the events leading up to the murder,” added the officer.
