Composer-actor GV Prakash bagged his second National Film Award, a recognition he calls, “an honour to cherish forever.” He received the award for Best Music Direction (Songs) for the Tamil-Telugu film Vaathi, starring Dhanush.

Talking to Filmfare about his win, he said, “Winning my second National Award is an honour I will cherish forever. Being recognised again for Vaathi is truly special. This film remains close to my heart not just for the music but for the creative journey I shared with Dhanush, an artiste who constantly inspires and pushes me to explore deeper layers of my craft.”

He credited director Venky Atluri, with whom he has collaborated on 3 high-profile projects already including their next offering being Suriya 46. “I must also thank Venky Atluri, whose vision makes music an integral heartbeat of his films. After Vaathi and Lucky Baskhar, we are coming together again for Suriya 46, and I can already say the music of that film will be something very special. Our collaboration goes far beyond cinema; it is about creating emotions that live with the audience long after the film ends,” Prakash noted.

This year, he shared the stage with stalwarts from Bollywood and South cinema and called it a reminder of the way films can transcend boundaries. He added, “Sharing the stage this year in the presence of icons like Shah Rukh Khan sir, Mohanlal sir, and so many other great artists is a privilege in itself, and a reminder of the unifying power of cinema. Together we stand as Indian cinema, diverse, rich, and ever-evolving.”

GV Prakash previously won a National Film Award for Best Music Direction (Score) in Soorarai Pottru. Reflecting on his journey, he acknowledged the influence of some legendary composers on his own craft. He said, “It is an honour to find my work mentioned in the same breath as some of the greatest legends of our music industry, AR Rahman and Ilaiyaraaja, who have set timeless benchmarks in both songs and background score. This award I dedicate to every person who has contributed to my journey and to every artist who dares to dream big. This recognition is not just a personal milestone, but a celebration of the music that binds our films, our culture, and our audiences together.”
