According to news agency ANI, the death certificate of singer Zubeen Garg indicates drowning as the cause of death. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has assured of a more thorough investigation. He also said that this differs from the post-mortem report, which the government is trying to acquire as soon as possible.

During a conversation with the media, the Chief Minister of Assam mentioned that the death certificate provided by the Singapore High Commission mentioned drowning as the cause of death. The government has since requested the post-mortem report from the commission. He said, “The Singapore High Commission sent the death certificate of Zubeen Garg, and they mentioned the cause of death is drowning.” 

He added, “But this is not a post-mortem report. The post-mortem report is different, and the death certificate is different. We will send the documents to CID. The Chief Secretary of the Assam Government is contacting the Singapore Ambassador to get the post-mortem report as soon as possible.”

In a tragic turn of events, Zubeen passed away on September 19 after a scuba diving incident in Singapore. His remains were flown to Delhi before being transported commercially to Guwahati, Assam, on Sunday morning. Zubeen was in Singapore for the Northeast India Festival, and the organizers released a statement attributing his death to breathing problems he experienced while scuba diving. The statement added, “He was immediately given CPR before being rushed to Singapore General Hospital. Despite efforts to save him, he was declared deceased in the ICU around 2:30 PM IST.”

On Sunday, the Chief Minister of Assam announced that the final rites for the singer would be conducted at Kamarkuchi village on Tuesday at around 8 am. While speaking with the media, he said, “We will carry the mortal remains of Zubeen Garg from Arjun Bhogeswar Baruah Sports Complex at around 8 am on September 23 to the location of Kamarkuchi, where the last rites will be conducted. A state funeral will be held on September 23.”
