
A soldier was killed in a gunfight with suspected militants in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district on Friday, said the Army’s White Knight Corps.
The gunfight broke out after a group of three to four suspected militants was spotted in the Seoj Dhar area, reported The Hindu.
The soldier, Lance Dafadar Baldev Chand, was injured in the first bout of the exchange of fire, the newspaper quoted officials as saying.
“His supreme sacrifice stands as a beacon of courage and duty, inspiring future generations,” stated the White Knight Corps on Sunday.
On August 13, a soldier, Havildar Ankit Kumar, was killed in a gunfight as the Army foiled an infiltration attempt by suspected militants along the Line of Control in Uri, in North Kashmir’s Baramulla.
A day earlier, the Army said another soldier, Sepoy Banoth Anil Kumar, was killed while “performing operational duty” along the Line of Control in Baramulla.
On August 9, two soldiers – Lance Naik Pritpal Singh and Sepoy Harminder Singh – were killed and two others were injured during a gunfight with suspected militants in Kulgam district during a security operation codenamed “Operation Akhal”.
