Man dies after falling from 7th floor of under construction


A 49-year-old man tragically died after falling from the 7th floor of an under-construction building in Maharashtra`s Thane district, civic officials said on Friday. 

According to the Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) of the Thane Municipal Corporation, the incident took place at around 2:35 pm on Friday.

“The incident occurred behind Highland Hospital at Highland Park in Dhokali area in Thane west. The deceased, identified as Sachin Vasant Gundekar, was working as a store manager for Siddhi Group Enterprises at Building No. 2, a 32-storey tower under construction,” said an official.

Gundekar was a resident of Shree Krupa Society in Mulund (East), he said.

The official further said that the deceased fell from the 7th floor and got entangled in an iron structure and ropes on the ground floor. He suffered a severe head injury and was declared dead on the spot.

The fire brigade personnel from the Balkum Fire Station, officials from Kapurbawdi Police Station, and the Disaster Management team rushed to the site after receiving the information, said the official.

The emergency and rescue vehicles, along with an ambulance, were also present, the official said.

“His body was recovered by fire and rescue personnel and handed over to the Kapurbawdi Police. It has been sent to Thane Civil Hospital for post-mortem and further legal procedures. The police are investigating the circumstances that led to his death,” a civic official said.

Meanwhile, in an another incident, a 35-year-old man died after allegedly being hit by an excavator machine near Ghatkopar railway station in Mumbai in the early hours of Thursday.

Following the incident, the police registered a case of culpable homicide against the machine`s driver, the official said.

After his body was found at the spot in Ghatkopar area of Mumbai, a case of accidental death (ADR) was registered and a probe was launched. Technical evidence later proved that he was sleeping near the wheeled excavator machine. When the driver came there and started the machine, he was hit by it, an official said on Thursday, reported the PTI.

A case of culpable homicide but not amounting to murder was registered against the machine`s driver who has been identified as Bharat Yadav. He has been booked under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and investigation is underway, he said.
