Vicky Kaushal’s fans may need to wait a bit longer for his upcoming film, Mahavatar. According to a recent report, the mythological saga, initially planned for a 2026 release, has been tentatively postponed to 2027. The report further says that this delay is due to the filming schedule of Love & War.

According to Peeping Moon, the film was initially slated to begin filming in the last quarter of this year. However, it is now expected that Mahavatar will begin filming in April next year, making it impossible to release the film by December 2026. This delay is reportedly due to Vicky Kaushal’s commitments to Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s period romance, Love & War,  which is taking longer than expected to complete.

Earlier, producer Dinesh Vijan had attended WAVES 2025 as a panellist, where he discussed the importance of presenting stories deeply connected to Indian culture. He also provided an update on Vicky Kaushal’s upcoming film, Mahavatar, describing it as Maddock Films’ most ambitious project to date. Dinesh said, “I think we’re in a very interesting space. Any example that you take of a region breaking out into the world, first explores in that region. I think, post-pandemic, we’re finally getting our act together. We’re understanding that stories need to be made for the common man.”

Last year, Vicky Kaushal had posted the first look of Mahavatar which immediately went viral. He shared the first look along with the caption, “Dinesh Vijan brings to life the story of the eternal warrior of dharma! Vicky Kaushal stars as Chiranjeevi Parashurama in #Mahavatar, directed by Amar Kaushik. Coming to cinemas – Christmas 2026!”
