
HDFC ATM Theft
Hyderabad, July 17: In a significant breakthrough, Hyderabad police arrested three individuals involved in the theft of ₹34.71 lakh from an HDFC Bank ATM in Markhandeya Nagar. The accused were identified as Yasib Hussain alias Asif Haarun Khan (28) and Md Abed (31), both residents of Haryana, and Aamir Aansri (24), a resident of Hyderabad. Police recovered ₹17 lakh in cash and four two-wheelers from their possession.
The gang committed the robbery in the early hours of July 9. Between 2:30 am and 3:30 am, they used gas cutters to break into the ATM and fled with the cash. Their arrest was made by the Central Crime Station (CCS) in coordination with Balanagar and Jeedimetla police.
How the Theft Happened
Police said the gang’s modus operandi included:

Conducting reconnaissance of ATMs located in isolated areas.

Cutting CCTV wires to avoid detection.

Using stolen motorbikes for swift getaways.

Abandoning vehicles after the crime and switching routes using public transport or other stolen vehicles.

Following the HDFC ATM theft, the accused abandoned the first getaway vehicle in Gummadidala. They then stole another two-wheeler in Kamareddy, which was used to travel to Adilabad, where it too was abandoned. From there, they split into teams and boarded trucks back to their home states.

Investigations revealed the accused were part of an interstate gang involved in over 30 criminal offences, including house burglaries, ATM lootings, and vehicle thefts.

Yasib Hussain has prior convictions under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) and served 7 years in prison.

Aamir Aansri was previously convicted under Section 376 (rape) of the IPC and POCSO Act and sentenced to 20 years, but is currently out on bail.
A case has been registered under Sections 331(4) and 305 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Further investigation is underway to trace more associates and recover the remaining amount.
