Bibi Ka Alam 2025
Hyderabad: Tens of thousands of Shia mourners gathered in Hyderabad on Wednesday to participate in the historic Bibi Ka Alam procession, marking Ashura — the 10th day of Muharram and the martyrdom of Imam Hussain, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad.
The procession, steeped in centuries-old tradition, began at 1 PM from Alwa-e-Bibi and moved solemnly through key areas of the Old City, including Dabeerpura, Darul Shifa, and Purani Haveli, before culminating at Chaderghat.
In a notable highlight this year, Laxmi, an elephant brought in from Karnataka, carried the revered Bibi Ka Alam for the first time. The animal paused at two important spots during the procession, where mourners offered tributes and recited elegies. Videos of Laxmi participating in the procession went viral across social media platforms, with devotees expressing emotional reactions.
To ensure the safety and smooth flow of the massive gathering, the Hyderabad City Police deployed more than 3,000 personnel. Elaborate security arrangements were in place, including surveillance drones, CCTV monitoring, and barricading at sensitive points.
City Police Commissioner CV Anand personally reviewed the security setup on Tuesday evening at Darul Shifa and Dabeerpura. He also participated in the religious observance by offering dhattis (offerings) at the Alam.
The Bibi Ka Alam procession is one of the most significant Muharram events in South India, with a heritage that dates back over 400 years. It symbolizes the sacrifices of Imam Hussain and his companions in the Battle of Karbala, and is observed with deep devotion and mourning by the Shia community.
