Hyderabad, July 5: In preparation for the annual Bibi Ka Alam Muharram procession, Hyderabad City Police has deployed 3,000 personnel across key areas of the city to ensure peace and security. Police Commissioner CV Anand personally reviewed the arrangements on Thursday, July 4, visiting Darul Shifa and Dabeerpura, where he also offered dhattis (offerings).
Speaking to the media, Anand said the deployment will be at its peak on July 5 and 6, coinciding with the largest gatherings expected during the final stretch of the Muharram processions. “We have conducted several inter-departmental coordination meetings with ministers, Shia leaders, police, and civic officials. Based on their feedback, all necessary security and traffic measures have been implemented,” he stated.
The commissioner elaborated that while the final two days require full deployment, police units have also been monitoring and securing the smaller, daily processions. Additional police forces are being mobilized to manage traffic over the weekend, with the city’s DCPs from the Traffic Wing closely supervising to avoid congestion.
Anand issued a public warning against chain snatchers, pickpockets, and eve-teasers. “Our crime teams and She Teams are vigilant and have already detained several suspects based on intelligence inputs,” he said.
Urging public cooperation, he added, “The success of Muharram security depends on both the law enforcement and the community. Please assist and cooperate with officers on duty.”
The commissioner’s proactive inspection and robust deployment underline the city police’s commitment to safeguarding religious events and maintaining communal harmony.
