‘Chalo Secretariat’ Protest in Hyderabad
Hyderabad, July 4 — Tensions flared in Hyderabad on Friday as several job aspirants were detained during the ‘Chalo Secretariat’ protest led by the student wing of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and the Unemployed Joint Action Committee (JAC). The demonstration aimed to pressure the Congress-led Telangana government into releasing a comprehensive job notification calendar, as promised during the 2023 elections.
Demanding the immediate release of all detained protestors and a time-bound employment schedule, demonstrators were met with heavy police presence. BRSV Telangana vice president Tunga Balu and several other student leaders were reportedly placed under house arrest in the early hours. Others were taken into preventive custody in a bid to derail the planned protest march.
Videos circulating on social media captured chaotic scenes as protestors were forcibly pushed into police vans and pinned to the ground by security personnel. The aggressive crackdown sparked outrage among the student community and political observers.
Tunga Balu condemned the detentions as “illegal and undemocratic,” slamming Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for failing to deliver on the Congress party’s poll promise of providing 2 lakh government jobs and issuing a transparent recruitment calendar.
While the BRSV now vocally opposes the arrests, critics were quick to point out that similar treatment was meted out to protestors during the BRS regime. Nevertheless, the current wave of protests underscores the growing frustration among unemployed youth in Telangana over the lack of progress in job creation.
As the political temperature continues to rise, all eyes are on the state government for a concrete response to the demands of the aspirants.
