Instagram President Adam Mosseri has announced the new update to Threads’ Hidden Words setting. Mosseri said in his latest statement that the platform’s Hidden Words setting now includes new custom filters to block words, phrases, and emojis in batches. He also added that it offers optional time limits.

Adam Mosseri’s statement is as follows;

“Threads now has its own Hidden Words setting, separate from Instagram. This includes newly added custom filters to block words, phrases, and emojis in batches, with optional time limits. Threads is about fostering an open exchange of perspectives, and to do so, people need to be able to shape the experience into one where they feel comfortable expressing themselves. This is just one more idea in support of that goal.”

Meta’s decision, as mentioned above, further emphasizes the independence between Instagram and Threads. For those who don’t know, the previous version of the Hidden Words feature was tied to Instagram. Users could only mute the same words and phrases across both social media platforms. However, this has now changed.

Adam Mosseri’s words that Threads should shape an experience where people feel comfortable expressing themselves could be interpreted as a major sign that such moves will continue in the future.

The update has not yet reached all users

While Mosseri says the new Threads update is now available to everyone, some users have yet to experience the latest word filter features. However, that shouldn’t worry them — the app will be rolling it out to all users very soon.

Another handy feature that comes with the update is optional time limits. For instance, the new season of the Squid Game series has been released, and you don’t have time to watch it. Here, you can silence certain words for 30 days. This way, you can avoid annoying situations, such as spoilers. The feature also shows you how many days are left.
