If you’ve ever found yourself in a situation where you couldn’t remember that one song you heard, Gemini on Android can finally help you. When Google first rolled out Gemini, it left behind some features from Google Assistant, including Song Search. Gemini used to throw a message saying, “I can’t identify the song playing in your environment right now.” However, that has changed.
Gemini on Android can finally help users identify music with Song Search
Folks over at 9to5Google first spotted that Gemini has picked up the built-in Song Search feature. With the latest change, Gemini feels more like a fully loaded Android assistant. So, how does Gemini’s new feature work?
You can try out Gemini’s song ID feature just by saying “What song is this?” Next, you’ll see Gemini opening a full-screen mode asking you to play, sing, or hum the tune of the music you want to search. When Gemini AI listens to the tune, you’ll see a pulsating sphere in action as it identifies the song.
The search results are then opened in the Google app. As seen in the screenshot below, there’s a footer text that reads, “Songs that match will open in Google Search. Tap close to cancel.” Gemini’s new feature can search for songs that are playing nearby, in your playlists, or even those that you hum.
The feature isn’t still native
All that said, the experience isn’t as fluid as Pixel’s Now Playing feature, which still manages to stay ahead in this regard. Unlike Now Playing, Gemini’s new feature requires you to stay online to work. Additionally, it isn’t native and inline. However, users will surely welcome the fact that Gemini helps search for songs in some way, rather than being useless in this department.
For now, the Gemini song search feature is only live on Android. Moreover, it’s unclear if or when it will make it to iOS. Speaking of Gemini, a new report suggests that Google is working on something called “Gemini Space,” which will be an upgraded and entirely new version of Pixel’s “At a Glance” feature.
