Crime Today Moves Telangana High Court
Crime Today News has formally moved the Telangana High Court against what it describes as an unlawful and politically motivated arrest of its founder and senior journalist, Shaik Rahmat Ali, by the Suryapet police. The petition raises serious concerns about human rights violations, procedural lapses, and misuse of state power.
By Naveed Uddin Khan Uzair
According to the petition, Shaik Rahmat Ali was picked up by the Suryapet Town Police on the night of June 1, 2025, without being shown an FIR, arrest memo, or served with a notice under Section 35 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The police allegedly used a private vehicle to execute the arrest, further raising legal and ethical concerns about the manner in which it was carried out.
The FIR No. 184/2025 includes multiple sections:
-
Section 79, BNS
-
Section 353, BNS
-
Section 356(2) and 356(3), BNS
-
and Section 67 of the Information Technology Act
Crime Today News asserts that the arrest was carried out in total disregard for legal protocols, and Shaik Rahmat Ali was detained overnight without judicial oversight, legal counsel, or family communication. The custodial conditions are also under scrutiny, with allegations of forced video recording, denial of medical assistance, and unauthorized surveillance, all of which amount to serious violations of Article 21 of the Indian Constitution, which guarantees the right to life and personal liberty.
In its petition, the media outlet describes the incident as a clear abuse of state power for personal or political vendetta, stating that the action was orchestrated to suppress journalistic freedom and intimidate independent media voices critical of those in power.
Spokeperson – Crime Today News said, “The illegal detention and custodial harassment of our founder is not only a direct attack on press freedom but a blatant violation of fundamental rights. We trust the judiciary will uphold justice and hold those responsible accountable.”
The organization is seeking:
-
Immediate dismissal of the FIR,
-
Disciplinary action against the officials involved,
-
A formal public apology,
-
And safeguards to ensure such incidents do not occur in the future.
The matter is expected to be heard by the Telangana High Court in the coming days.
Opinion & Conclusion
By Naveed Uddin Khan Uzair, CTO, Crime Today News
The unlawful arrest and inhumane treatment of our founder, Shaik Rahmat Ali, is not just an attack on one journalist — it is an attack on the very spirit of press freedom and democracy. Detaining a senior journalist without an FIR, arrest memo, or legal notice under Section 35 BNS is a blatant violation of due process and constitutional safeguards.
The use of a private vehicle for the arrest, forced video recordings in custody, and denial of medical treatment reflect a disturbing misuse of state machinery. This is not policing — this is persecution.
At Crime Today News, we believe journalism must hold power to account, not be silenced by it. We are moving to the Telangana High Court not just to defend one of our own, but to defend every journalist’s right to report fearlessly. Justice must prevail, not only for Shaik Rahmat Ali but for the freedom of the press across India.
