HONOR is all set to launch the Magic V5 foldable smartphone at an event in China on July 2nd. The company has already started accepting pre-reservations for the successor of the HONOR Magic V3 through its official store in China. HONOR has now begun teasing the design (via Tarun Vats) of the Magic V5, which will debut as the world’s thinnest and lightest foldable smartphone in a couple of weeks.
This is what the world’s thinnest and lightest foldable phone looks like
HONOR’s Magic V5’s predecessor, the Magic V3, is already incredibly thin with a 9.2mm waistline in the folded mode and 4.35mm thick in the unfolded state. HONOR will push the boundaries of foldable smartphone slimness with the upcoming model. The HONOR Magic V5’s design seems incredibly thin in the first set of official teasers. The company claims the Magic V5 will be “the thinnest and lightest foldable” smartphone to date.
It means that the HONOR Magic V5 will be even slimmer than the OPPO Find N5, which is the current holder of the slimmest folding phone crown, measuring 8.9mm in its folded state and 4.2mm unfolded. One of the official images shows that the Magic V5 will have a rather large protruding circular camera module at the rear. Notably, the camera module appears to be significantly thicker than the phone itself, of course, in the unfolded state.
HONOR also exhibited the Magic V5 foldable with a rugged cover at the MWC Shanghai event. The device looks impressively slim, like a coin, in these photos too.
What do we know so far?
HONOR could equip the Magic V5 with LTPO OLED screen panels with refresh rates of up to 120Hz. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite processor will power the new foldable phone. HONOR will pair the device’s SoC with 16GB of RAM, as per a recent sighting in the database of Geekbench. As per the company, the Magic V5 will feature a set of new powerful AI features and “PC-level” productivity. Perhaps, the foldable will provide a two-in-one product experience: smartphone + PC.
Furthermore, the rumor mill indicates that HONOR will fit the Magic V5 foldable with a 6,100mAh third-gen silicon-carbon battery. It will support 66W wired fast charging. Some reports indicate the device will have a 50MP main camera, aided by a 200MP periscope telephoto lens and an ultrawide-angle lens.
HONOR hasn’t yet confirmed a global launch for the Magic V5. We can expect the company to share more details closer to the launch event, so stay tuned.
