One of Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7’s main competitors has a launch date, the HONOR Magic V5. HONOR not only confirmed the phone’s launch date, but its name as well. As expected, the company will be skipping the Magic V4 naming.
There is a reason for it. The number ‘4’ is considered to be unlucky in China, while some companies, like Xiaomi, don’t really care, others tend to skip it. HONOR is on both sides of the coin, though, because it skips it for some devices, not for others. The HONOR Magic4 launched in 2022, but for some reason, HONOR decided to skip the Magic V4 name. Either way, the Magic V5 will be the official name.

The HONOR Magic V5 will become official on July 2. The event will be hosted in Shenzen, China, and it will kick off at 7 PM local time. The global variant of this device is expected to arrive at IFA 2025. There’s a chance it may arrive sooner than that, though.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, as many of you know, is expected to arrive in July too. It will launch after the HONOR Magic V5, though. Early or mid-July launch is tipped for the Galaxy Z Fold 7, but after July 2, that’s for sure.
The HONOR Magic V5 is tipped to become lightest and thinnest book-style foldable
Samsung’s offering will be much thinner this time around. Samsung itself already teased the phone’s thinness, hyping up its arrival. The HONOR Magic V2 and Magic V3 were immensely thin to begin with, so it remains to be seen how thin will their successor be. Rumors are saying it’s aiming to be lightest and thinness, though.
Either way, it seems like Samsung will finally be able to compete in the thinness department, which is quite important when it comes to book-style foldables. Samsung did trail behind in that regard thus far.
The HONOR Magic V5 will be fueled by the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor. The phone will also include plenty of RAM and storage, while two 120Hz LTPO OLED displays are expected. The phone could end up sporting a massive 6,100mAh battery.
